We connect youth waiting in foster care with the adults who become stable forces in their lives and support those relationships so that they last for a lifetime.
The Adoption Exchange was founded in Colorado in 1983 by concerned social workers and child advocates to work for safety and permanence in the lives of foster children. Initially a meeting place for caseworkers to discuss placement of children with families seeking to adopt in the Rocky Mountain region, the organization has grown considerably over the years and now impacts national trends in child welfare while serving children in eight member states. The Adoption Exchange envisions a world in which all children are valued and grow up in safe and permanent families and where families are supported in their critical roles. The agency's mission is to provide the connection between children who wait and families who adopt. During its 26-year history, the agency has worked with public and private child welfare agencies across the United States to connect vulnerable children with prospective families. So far, The Adoption Exchange has helped find permanent homes for more than 5,500 children who were waiting in the foster care system. Today, The Adoption Exchange finds families for children who have survived abuse and neglect, provides training and knowledge to permanency planning professionals, and gives information and support to adoptive families.
